A video recently shared by police in New Mexico has one lesson for its viewers - don't try to outrun a horse.
Albuquerque police were alerted to a shoplifting incident at a local Walgreens late last month while patrolling the area. Horse-mounted officers responded to the call and located the 30-year-old suspect nearby.
Body cam footage shows one officer riding on the back of a dark brown horse as he approaches the man. According to a post by the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) on Facebook, the man refused to comply with officers and took off running on foot.
The video shows the horse cantering through a parking lot as the mounted officer guides it onto the sidewalk in front of the store. He asks a group of people standing near the door's entrance if the man they are yelling after stole something from the store, to which they reply yes.

The officer and horse then pick up speed to chase after the man, who is dashing across the parking lot. The officer calls after him, yelling "Stop! Albuquerque police! You are being detained!"
The man continues to run away from the police, crossing the parking lot and running into a multi-lane highway, stopping traffic.
As one may expect, it's not an easy feat to outrun a horse. The man soon after appears to give up, slowing to a walk but stepping on and off the roadway and sidewalk, appearing to try to walk around the animal. Two more mounted officers arrive in the frame, also riding large brown horses.
The three surround the man on the sidewalk as he yells, "It wasn't me!" and "I didn't do sh--!" Soon after, an officer can be seen dismounting and placing handcuffs on the man.
The man is accused of stealing $230 worth of merchandise. He was charged with Shoplifting, Eluding/Evading Police on Foot, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, said the APD.
